Providence Health & Services Vice President – Workforce Planning in Renton, Washington
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Vice President – Workforce Planning to Providence System Office in Renton, WA.
The VP, Workforce Planning will be a mission-aligned value creator , who deeply understands our operational strategies and meaningfully contributes to our organization’s success. In this role, the successful candidate would be focused on strategic workforce planning, development, and management, organizational health, the caregiver experience, and effective labor relations. They will also be a data scientist, using workforce data to help us achieve the Quadruple Aim.
The Executive will be responsible for partnering with leaders across the system to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our PSJH workforce (clinical and administrative). This will include creating a strategic work force plan (3-5 years), designing and implementing optimal structural solutions (spans/layers, job design), aligning or streamlining enabling technologies and processes, managing system-level vendor relationships, and consulting with teams across the system to foster success. The position will also ensure appropriate dashboards are in place to ensure local leaders can measure performance regularly, understanding the global and detailed analytics behind what is driving success or needed improvement.
In addition to designing support structures and systems to share with local leaders, the leader in this position will engage regional and functional teams to assist local leaders so they can optimize workforce efficiency in the field, aiming to improve throughput with operational workforce planning (3-6 months), predictive staffing, productivity enhancement, position management, and improve the use of flexible float pools, ultimately reducing workforce cost, while improving value and caregiver experience.
In this position you will be responsible for the following functions:
Leads system-wide workforce vision, strategy & priorities (incl. defining future workforce capabilities & constructs).
Responsible for maintaining or improving caregiver experience while decreasing workforce costs through improvements in retention, hiring, staffing, productivity, agency, premium pay, job and organizational design, throughput management, and other innovations.
Sets direction and consults with local leaders to ensure effective implementation of regional and local workforce efforts.
Drives implementation of enabling tools, technology, and processes to improve workforce-related quadruple aim outcomes.
Uses workforce’s scorecard/dashboard to identify areas of success and challenge, promulgating practices that are proven to work across the system.
Provides ongoing workforce related expertise and support to system executive leadership and management at each region and ministry.
Leads system-level Workforce Strategy Steering Committee, facilities the Workforce Strategy Council, and participates in regional workface task forces.
Identifies internal leading practices and/or opportunities for projects that could improve work flow, eliminate wastes, reduce costs, improve engagement, optimize organizational or work design, etc.
Provides consultative, technical and decision-making support to management and regionally based representatives and workforce specialists regarding financial and operational improvement and program development.
Oversees reporting from Enterprise-wide productivity system utilized by al facilities to assist management in monitoring operational and financial performance and evaluate opportunities for improvement. Develops internal benchmarking processes and establish methods in which benchmark data is utilized.
Partners with existing regional workforce/staffing roles on various activities, including but not limited to:
Proposing productivity standards.
Productivity management and variance reporting, including use of productivity system and other tools.
Engagement process including Workforce Planning, External Spend strategy and migration strategies.
Providing support resources to assist with coaching and project support.
Identification of needs/prioritization of projects and support needed.
Performs regular reporting on workforce data and takes ad hoc requests for information to system-level leadership and regional leadership as needed.

Master’s degree from a recognized college or university in Strategy, Business, Healthcare Administration or a closely relate field.
Seven (7) years of business management experience with strong financial and operational background performing or managing workforce management projects to include experience in a healthcare environment.
Ability to travel to visit multiple regions (average of 25% travel) to meet with regional, facility and departmental leadership.
Proven track record of success at achieving big outcomes on broad-reaching, complex projects.
Ability to influence at all levels of the organization, changing the way people think, feel or act, including the C-Suite.
