Providence Health & Services Senior EMR Business Intelligence Analyst in Renton, Washington

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Senior EMR Business Intelligence Analyst to one of our locations in the Seattle, Portland, or Los Angeles area.

We are seeking a Senior EMR Business Intelligence Analyst who will be accountable for delivering standard reporting and data and analytics solutions for EMR users across Ptovidence and our Community Connect clients. This position will support major Epic initiatives, including go lives, new implementations, upgrades and optimizations; as well as support legacy EMRs for new affiliations pending Epic go lives. This position will work closely with the Epic Applications and Informatics teams to ensure a seamless end user experience for their data and analytics needs. This position will also work closely with the end user to understand their business requirements, and provide high quality and relevant data solutions.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain standard reporting and data and analytics solutions utilizing primarily Oracle SQL, Business Objects, and Toad. Requires understanding of full HI offerings (SQL Developer, Tableau, SAP HANA) to ensure duplicative solutions are not provided, and existing HI offerings are leveraged.

  • Work closely with the end user to define requirements, understanding what is needed to answer the business question (which may be different from what is asked). Demonstrate an open willingness to listen and learn clinical or business needs, then create standard reports or other data and analytics solutions that are of excellent quality (as measured by SQL performance, data integrity, and following HI coding standards).

  • Articulate key process flows and stakeholders; describe and manipulate data sets, sources and structures; gather requirements and manage multiple inputs and priorities; and develop reporting or other data solutions to make data more meaningful to business initiatives. Analyze data quantitatively and qualitatively and communicate findings; identify root cause of problems with reports or data sets within the domain; and collaborate on data quality conditions and monitoring with domain business subject matter experts.

  • Develop a deep understanding of Epic capabilities and functionality through study and certification, but also through embedding with business units or leaders as appropriate. Understand what insight can and should be provided through Reporting Workbench, to avoid duplicative solutions.

  • Periodically review and update standard reporting or other EMR delivered solutions, reviewing usage of the reports, optimizing for performance, retiring dated content to ensure continued relevance and tracking with regulatory, environmental and business changes.

  • Understand Epic Clinical Optimization projects, and provide data and analytics support as appropriate.

  • Analyze information in the reports developed to identify issues, trends, or interesting findings to be shared with the business customer. Help the business customer interpret and understand data in reports and how to apply them in improving patient care.

  • Provide training on standard EMR reporting and data and analytics solutions. Mentor other analysts to share knowledge and improve business understanding and technical skills.

  • Develop a fluency in the HI 1-page summary to fully understand the scope of HI delivered solutions.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Public Health, Business Management, Information Services or equivalent education/experience.

  • 5 years Healthcare setting or related field.

  • 5 years Relational databases, automated reporting tools.

  • 5 years SQL.

  • 5 years Epic Certification, or other relevant EMR certifications.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Public Health, Business Management, Information Services.
