Providence Health & Services Senior Clinical Data Engineer in Renton, Washington
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Senior Clinical Data Engineer – PSJH to our location in Renton, WA; Portland, OR; NorCal, LA or Orange County, CA or Remote.
There is limited space on this team for just the right person. We need an all-out data rock star capable of working independently and collaboratively to scale and enhance locally-developed analytics as well as build out the existing cloud data warehouse to feed a brand-new self-service web platform. This person will utilize his/her advanced subject matter expertise and programming skills to creatively innovate, solve complex problems, lead teams, design advanced data sources, develop quality assurance processes, test multiple hypotheses, design challenging architecture, use advanced contemporary data science techniques, provide ongoing training and facilitate multiple projects.
The immediate focus of this role will be the design, development, and implementation of a scalable agile and secure cloud-based clinical data analytics warehouse.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Cloud Data Architecture: Designs advanced cloud data sources, views and summaries and creates optimal data architecture.
Data Transformation: Utilizes modern tool sets such as data factory, Control M, Informatica, etc. to pipe, transform, cleanse, and automate data flow.
Performance Analysis: Leverages Load Testing, Profiler, SQLdm, etc. or other comparable tools to conduct performance analysis and implement design changes for optimization.
Mentorship/Training: Provides ongoing general and cloud architecture training to caregivers outside Clinical Analytics and provides regular training and mentorship for Clinical Analytics colleagues.
Display / Visualization: Analyzes visualization design; scales challenging visualization projects independently; utilizes good sensibility in visualization implementation.
Data Validation / Accuracy: Develops quality assurance processes; performs data validation; critically evaluates the output of reports to produce reports with a high degree of accuracy.
Reporting / Analysis: Works with clients to develop and iteratively test multiple hypotheses around complex questions; provide strong written summaries of findings; creates presentations that succinctly address and anticipates the questions of the audience.
Statistics / Data Science: Uses advanced contemporary data science techniques and/or biostatistics to complete routine and complex projects with the help of a mentor.
Clinical Data Expertise: Advanced Subject Matter Expert and analytic resource in a number of clinical areas applying knowledge of definitions and identifying best sources of data.
Required qualifications for this position include:
BA/BS degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, business administration, healthcare or a related clinical or analytic discipline and/or equivalent experience.
The equivalent of MA/MS degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, business administration, healthcare or a related clinical or analytic discipline, or Six Sigma Black or other similar designation / certification.
7 years of relevant data analysis.
Experience with database query and analysis languages (e.g. SQL, R, SAS, Python) and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, D3).
Ability to interpret complex statistical data.
Demonstrated ability to define, develop and analyze performance measures and metrics.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Possesses knowledge of healthcare including: Clinical terms and concepts, Administrative Coding, including DRG, ICD, CPT.
Displays a record of self-motivated discovery, intense intellectual curiosity, and a passion for working with data to answer important questions.
Quantitative skills and analytical abilities to interpret complex data for strategic projects and conduct statistical analyses.
Familiarity with database structures, data definitions, and data relationships sufficient to understand and utilize complex data models with multifaceted record relationships, key structures, and record identification schemas.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
• 2 years of experience with Snowflake Cloud Data Warehouse • 4 years of Azure cloud platform experience • Microsoft Cloud Platform and Infrastructure Certification • MA/MS degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, business administration, healthcare or a related clinical or analytic discipline. • Additional certifications in Azure cloud services, applications, or tools for at least 1 year.
About the team.
The Engagement and Enablement (E2) team functions as part of the larger Providence St. Joseph Health Clinical Analytics Department. We are accountable for surfacing integrated clinical data and metrics for self-service analytics at scale, developing software products in support of PSJH data democratization, facilitating regional collaborative development and analytics governance, and scaling locally developed reporting objects for all PSJH. The team is an internal startup formed with the initial purpose of implementing an in-house solution to replace a large vendor contract, and we now work to make healthcare analytics easier and faster through collaboration and innovation. Each person on our team is expected to be an expert communicator as we often work independently across a large geography with a variety of other teams throughout our large integrated health system.
