Providence Security Officer 1 in Renton, Washington
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Security Officer 1 to our location in Renton, WA.
We are seeking a Security Officer 1 to receive general direction from the Security Manager, Supervisor or Lead Security Officer. Performs a variety of security responsibilities to protect patients, visitors, caregivers, property and facilities from accidents, bodily harm, fire, theft, vandalism, hazardous materials, and illegal entry. Enforces Providence St Joseph Health, facility and security policies and regulations. Investigate reports of potential criminal conduct against PSJH caregivers, visitors, and property; responds and assists in restraining disruptive/combative individuals; detains individuals when necessary; provides protective services to high risk areas; and performs reception services. May be required to support any Providence St Joseph Health or affiliated organization in emergent situations in the local service area.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Adheres to Providence Core Values and Code of Conduct.
Follows and maintains a working knowledge of current department policies and standard operating procedures. Enforces PRMCE policies such as identification badging, access, loitering, smoking, parking, contraband, weapons, etc.
Patrols assigned area including hospital units, clinics, and Providence property on foot or in a vehicle to deter criminal activity, to detect unauthorized activity and to identify needs for assistance. Monitors radio broadcasts by the Switchboard and other officers to provide assistance as needed. Identifies, reports, and responds to suspicious activities.
Accurately completes reports including case/incident reports, accident reports, property slips and others documents in accordance with Security policies.
Investigates thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct; notifies appropriate law enforcement agencies and detains suspicious individuals when authorized; participates in subsequent court proceedings as required.
Maintains accountability for valuables/property and forms of evidence.
Uses security equipment to detect inappropriate or illegal behaviors. Promptly reports any system malfunctions.
Liaises with law enforcement, fire department, emergency medical services, public relations and other PSJH stakeholders to ensure appropriate assistance is provided and threats are identified and appropriately communicated.
Provides prompt and effective response to panic buttons and alarms. Responds to emergency Codes per existing procedures.
Responds to requests to address and de-escalate difficult or combative individuals; physically detains, restrains, or disarms individuals as necessary. Assists with the handling of high security risk caregivers or visitors.
Assists during specific emergencies, including the establishment of a Incident Command Center as needed.
Attends training sessions and maintains required department certifications. Skilled in the use of security and protective equipment including OC/Pepper Spray, Tasers, Cameras, Restraint Devices, etc.
Completes assigned inspections of safety equipment and promptly reports and/or corrects any fire or safety hazards. Reports for duty on time and maintains post assignments at times specified.
Follows Security policies and procedures including monitoring and responding to radio traffic, checking in service, and providing timely updates.
Maintains and secures confidentiality of records and medical center information. Complies with HIPAA requirements.
Reports to work when called during emergencies and inclement weather conditions. May be subject to mandatory overtime when required when operationally needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent education/experience.
1 year Law Enforcement/Security/Military experience or related college course work may substitute for one year of experience.
Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Successfully complete the Field Training Officer Program including Customer Service, De-escalation, Defensive Tactics, OC/Pepper Spray, CEW/Taser, Handcuffing, and CPR, as well as Basic Healthcare Security Training within six months of hire.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree or one year post-secondary education and one year healthcare security experience.
2 years of responsible work experience and prior experience in a healthcare setting.
