Providence Health & Services Regional Manager, Performance Improvement in Renton, Washington


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Regional Manager, Performance Improvement to our location in Irvine, CA.

We are seeking a Regional Manager, Performance Improvement to partner with and support local clinical teams in the analysis, design and implementation of performance improvement initiatives that aim to reduce variation in our high-cost, high-volume clinical conditions. The position will manage a multi-million dollar portfolio of work, focused on reducing our cost per case while improving our quality outcomes, in support of the organization’s strategic Quality goals around Value-creation. The Regional Manager, Performance Improvement, will identify key improvement trends across the region and oversee regional efforts where collaboration and standardization across ministries is appropriate.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Oversees the day-to-day execution of the Clinical Effectiveness portfolio of work, as assigned.

  • Collaborates with Clinical Excellence leadership to support program development, manage costs, improve quality and facilitate improvement initiatives to meet the strategic goals of the organization.

  • Oversees identification, analysis, selection and execution of performance improvement initiatives using known improvement methodologies (PDSA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) to reduce variation, and improve/streamline clinical processes for optimal performance.

  • Promotes improved clinical, financial and operational outcomes by working collaboratively with key departments and cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams at the system, region and local ministry level.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with executives, physicians and frontline clinical and ancillary staff in order to deliver on a multifaceted portfolio of improvement work.

  • Collects, analyzes and interprets complex clinical data surrounding service lines, quality, operations and financial opportunities for improvement. Transforms data trends into performance improvement opportunities and initiatives.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, industrial engineering or related field.

  • 5 year’s healthcare experience.

  • Project management knowledge, as well as strong facilitation and relationship-building.

  • Demonstrated healthcare experience with extensive knowledge of quality/safety metrics, benchmarks and publicly reported data.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to understand data, trends, and basic statistics.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to build strong support and consensus, and foster collaboration to achieve results.

  • Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills with ability to articulate complex quality and cost information.

  • Skills and ability to effectively problem solve, handle multiple priorities and appropriately manage time.

  • Skills and ability to perform educational and developmental activities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be accountable to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare, industrial engineering or related field.

  • Green Belt or Black Belt Certified.
