Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Manager, Employee Relations PSJH. This role works 100% remotely so is open to candidates residing in Washington, Montana, Oregon, California or Texas. Occasional travel may be required to our locations in Renton, WA, Portland, OR or Irvine, CA.

We are seeking for a Manager, Employee Relations PSJH who will oversee broad employee relations support to assigned areas. The Manager develops and implements proactive people strategies that support the System and Regional strategies, goals, and objectives while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment related laws.

Collaborates with Centers of Expertise and Field Human Resources to identify employee relations needs and implement strategies to support those needs across the System. Leads the implementation of various System-wide programs as appropriate to the Employee Relations department. Provides guidance and support for Regional leadership for employee relations issues. Provides solutions to complex or critical issues involving core leaders and Employees. Ensures implementation of high-quality standards for ER support. Leads the Employee Relations Consulting team to provide employee relations to the assigned Region. Develops ER improvement initiatives while shaping change and promoting fiscal responsibility.

The Manager, Employee Relations is responsible for providing guidance to the Employee Relations Consultants who serve as trusted resources for Core Leaders and Employees who face employee relations matters where content and subject-matter expertise is needed. The Manager ensures consistent and best practice approaches to positive employee and labor relations, adherence to HR policies, compliance with regulatory and policy requirements and standards, investigations and recommendations for workplace environment improvement. Additional areas of accountability include employee relations research, identifying trends and patterns and need for critical intervention, labor relations research, dispute alternatives and policy development, effective record keeping and data integrity. Maintains HR metrics and dashboards and reports to other HR professionals so actions can be aligned with findings.

The Manager, Employee Relations performs all duties in a manner which demonstrate leadership, promotes teamwork, and reflects the Providence Health & Services mission, values and philosophy and the values of the human resources division.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, development, and coaching to direct reports.

  • Develops and/or implements ER projects and programs. Coordinates and implements COE projects or programs ensuring Employee Relations functions are aligned and well positioned to support projects or programs.

  • Serves as a consultant to senior core leaders on employee relations matters where content and subject matter expertise is needed.

  • Assists in identifying opportunities for problem resolution to resolve issues between senior core leaders and Employees.

  • Works to manage risk and deploy best practices in the administration and delivery of ER services (e.g. Regulatory Bodies, EEOC and state agencies, ADA/LOA, Wage & Hour, Wrongful Discharge).

  • Advocates fair and appropriate workplace practices in accordance with mission, values, legal parameters.

  • Leads challenging conversations and interactions.

  • Promotes and utilizes HR technology, metrics, and systems to support the overall needs of the business.

  • Focuses on real time ER assessments and/or investigations/recommendations.

  • Works collaboratively with core leaders, local HR, HRSC, HR Connect and others, including Labor/Employment counsel as appropriate.

  • Demonstrates service excellence and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with others, including senior core leaders, Employees, internal and external customers, to maximize productivity and service delivery results.

  • Responds timely to highly complex questions, including researching appropriate information and soliciting SME input when requested and appropriate.

  • Escalates issues, where required, through a formalized issue/inquiry escalation process within HR Consulting as well as to other business partners, where applicable.

  • Resolves core leader and/or Employee questions and concerns through the various steps of the employee life cycle.

  • Provides and advises core leaders with information about HR policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge and application of all compliance and legal requirements of the job based on the scope of practice of the position.

  • Uses critical thinking and strategic methodology to identify and develop innovative service delivery solutions. Provide ER Consulting expertise on projects, may lead small projects.

  • Assures compliance with confidentiality policies, in accordance with State and Federal laws, maintains confidentiality of Employees, patient, and business-related information.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field, -OR- additional 4 years experience in lieu of education.

  • 8 years experience in general human resources, or equivalent work experience, at exempt level, in multi-state/location, service line of business.

  • 8 years demonstrated experience providing high-touch customer service in 'concierge' style environment.

  • 8 years demonstrated experience, in the area of Employee Relations, labor relations, ADAAA, and leaves of absence.

  • 5 years leadership of Human Resources professional staff experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.

  • 5 years project management.

  • 5 years additional experience in the specialty areas of Payroll, HR Service Center, Drug Free Workplace, Compliance, Performance Management.

  • HR Certification (PHR, SPHR or SHRM-CP, SCP, or CEBS).
