We are seeking a Government Affairs Analyst to be responsible for supporting the execution of state and federal advocacy programs for Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) and its affiliates. This includes identifying, communicating with, and coordinating between external associations and internal engagement partners; managing systems and structures of the Government & Public Affairs team, and analyzing public policy issues to identify and communicate their specific impact on Providence Health & Service ministries and affiliates. This position will also engage in communications and counsel with internal/external audiences on priority policy issues consistent with PSJH strategic direction.
In this position you will:
Support the PSJH government affairs team by creating written communication pieces, lobby documents, letters of support, presentations, and other materials explaining public policy issues of importance for dissemination to internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate the establishment of an integrated policy discernment and positioning process for PSJH.
Lead the coordinated interaction between PSJH content experts and leadership in collaboration with advocacy leads.
Monitor the administrative and regulatory processes, along with a similar focus on the legislative processes, in order to identify issues impacting the strategic and business interests of PSJH and its partners. Work directly with the Sr. Manager, Federal Regulatory and Engagement and other department leadership to develop a strategic response.
Develop effective communication structures to inform Providence St. Joseph Health leaders about legislative and policy issues. This includes supporting the design and maintenance of useful and informative government affairs intranet sites, as well as providing educational presentations to internal audiences on government relations and advocacy.
Support development of materials for Washington DC advocacy trips, state and federal advocacy meetings, and in-district congressional visits.
In collaboration with the VP, Government & Public Affairs; support strategies to shape public policy development to advance PH&S’ strategic goals, as well as inform system leadership on the impact of public policy changes relative to the organization’s strategic direction.
Provide detailed reporting on environmental and policy concerns in support of the development of state and federal planning materials, including annual advocacy agendas and other strategic work product.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Law, Political Science, Business, Communications, Government, or Health Administration.
3 years of work experience in legislative or regulatory activities, health administration or legal research; or and equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated leadership, project management, communications, analytical, creative conceptual thinking, and writing skills.
Demonstrated competency in research writing, public speaking, and personal computer and software applications.
Experience and knowledge of governmental processes and governmental relations.
