Providence Health & Services Executive Director, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) in Renton, Washington
The Executive Director of IS Network and Telecom Engineering will be responsible for the development and deployment of a PSJH enterprise networking and telecom engineering service line and service strategy. This individual will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and integrating emerging networking and telecom technologies into the PSJH environment. A core expectation will be to develop engineering standards and policies related to these emerging technologies.
The Executive Director will be responsible for managing a multi-discipline team of engineers. This team will leverage the technology portfolio to develop high valued, reliable, and scalable business solutions. The Executive Director will develop and maintain all standards of practice for the use of enterprise networking and telecom resources. These standards will ensure proactive planning and forecasting measures are operationalized to manage business demand and exceed business expectations.
The Executive Director and team will work collaboratively across engineering service lines in support of enterprise technology deployments, automation and innovation initiatives, and participate in re-engineering solutions for existing technology issues across the enterprise. A core responsibility of this role will be to lead the teams to engineer production solutions that are highly available, reliable, secure, fully documented, and in accordance with industry best practices.
Additional core responsibilities include establishing and managing annual operating and capital budgets, develop and govern adherence to standards and policies, and build and support a professional, creative and collaborative team. The Executive Director will maintain strategic vendor relationships, ensuring innovative strategies are incorporated into future roadmaps.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a distributed environment and leading geographically distributed teams. The scope of activities includes all planning, design, and engineering activities associated with all infrastructure technologies and platforms as well as the technology infrastructure to support those systems/devices. Additional responsibilities include developing and directing specific engineering programs/projects to support strategic initiatives.
The Executive Director IS Network and Telecom Engineering will have the following accountabilities:

Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and integrating emerging technologies into the PSJH environment; responsible for developing engineering standards and policies related to emerging technologies.
Responsible for designing, engineering, developing, and delivering networking technology solutions that support engineering, standard design, standard configuration and maintenance standards for PSJH.
Responsible for designing, engineering, developing, and delivering telecom technology solutions that support engineering, standard design, standard configuration, and maintenance standards for PSJH.
Guide team to engineer technical solutions to meet customer requirements with a balanced view toward performance, availability, data security, and cost effectiveness.
Familiar with Security, cloud services and automation, Database technologies (e.g. Oracle & SQL), Storage and Backup technologies, Client Systems technologies, UNIX and Windows server, virtualization technologies and tools.
Collaborate with other IS teams to discover and realize innovation in Cloud services and automation, Security Database, Client Systems, UNIX and Windows server and Server Virtualization techniques, technologies, and tools.
Perform all work with the focus on how best to support the Providence St. Joseph Health mission and ministries.
Maintain forward looking and strategic partnerships with key technology vendors.
Responsible for the development and implementation of standards and policies across all disciplines for enterprise networking and telecom engineering services.
Responsible for budgeting and the expenditures for all information technology infrastructure and research services related to networking and telecom engineering services.
Provide responsive leadership to delegate, coordinate, and motivate staff; evaluate performance for direct reports and for contractors/other peoples’ direct reports; work with individuals and HR to improve performance as needed.
Serve as a member of the Engineering management team, providing input for decisions affecting PSJH as a whole and their customers.
Build consensus and drives to agreement upon a course of action where there are multiple perspectives.
Responsible for managing the daily activities of support, process, and new project activities for an engineering team and coordinating the utilization of staff needed to assist with other projects.
Responsible for assisting with the development of the operating and/or capital budgets; responsible for the analysis, monitoring, and reconciliation of those budgets.
Responsible for hiring, training, and developing staff to ensure the team has both the technical and organizational skills to effectively maintain operations and support as measured by established service levels; conduct and oversee evaluations and establish performance goals of the staff; resolve disciplinary problems, grievances, and other sensitive personnel matters.
Responsible for the ongoing development and revision of performance standards for all job categories within the team.
Develop staff training plans and identify opportunities for on-the-job training; recommend formal training options.
Establish and maintain excellent standards in dealing with customers, vendors, and staff in the daily working of the team.
Escalate issues and/or problems on any customer impacting work to the VP of Engineering.
Monitor and provide input to the VP of Engineering regarding services used for outsourced services and contract compliance.
Facilitate procurement of outsourced consultants and contractors with requisite skills to augment the Engineering Team to meet PSJH business needs.
Responsible to support operational teams by serving as the highest escalation point for technology related issues; take ownership to conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions to remediate known issues.
Oversee operations for documentation and standards functions.
Serve as sponsor and/or owner, as appropriate, for technology projects and initiatives within areas of accountability.
Ensure systems are engineered for optimal availability, reliability, scalability, and performance. Create documents and refine operational processes.
Hold vendors responsible for delivery of contracted products and services.
Treat all others with respect and demonstrates excellence, justice and compassion in daily work.
Maintain the strict confidentiality of all information, including financial/operational, employee/human resource, healthcare/patient data and information.
Manage hardware, software and tool license purchases and usage, and vendor relationships.
Perform other duties as assigned by VP of Engineering.
Additional Responsibilities include:
Thorough understanding of current developments and trends in Networking and Telecommunication technologies, Windows Server tools and technologies (e.g. provisioning, monitoring and patching tools), as well as Server Virtualization products (e.g. VMWare)
Thorough understanding of software defined network technologies and wireless technologies, their components, their deployment designs, scalability, and lifecycle.
Maintaining the ability to inspire and transform teams into high performing, agile, functional centers of excellence in service delivery
Required experience/education for this position include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Sciences, Business Management, Information Services, or related field of study, or equivalent educ/experience

Thorough understanding and has extensive experience in establishing a network and telecom services engineering strategy and operationalizing and measuring the business value of this strategy.
Thorough understanding of industry leading networking and telecom technologies and extensive experience in leveraging these technologies to support business objectives
Thorough understanding of networking and telecom technologies and extensive experience in the use of these tools to drive business outcomes. Should have advanced knowledge of technologies such as MPLS wan, Cisco networking tools and technologies, wireless internet protocols, WaaS, and other large scale (10-40,000 concurrent users) network and telecom technologies.
Exceptional understanding and experience with IT Security,Network, Telecom, Database technologies (e.g. Oracle & SQL), Storage and Backup technologies, Client Systems technologies, UNIX and Windows server, Automation and Server Virtualization (e.g. VMWare) techniques, technologies, and tools.
Preferred experience/education for this position include:
Master’s Degree in Computer Sciences, Business Management, Information Services, or related field of study, or equivalent educ/experience
Coursework/Training for ITIL Certification, or equivalent educ/experience
