Providence Health & Services Executive Director of Operational Excellence – Supply Chain (REH) in Renton, Washington
Providence is one of the nation’s leading non-profit healthcare systems with 119,000 caregivers/employees serving more than 5 million unique patients across 51 hospitals and 800 clinics. Our locations range from metropolitan centers to rural settings across seven states: Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, and Washington. As a mission-based, not-for-profit healthcare provider, our commitment to providing compassionate care to all lives on through our five core values: Compassion, Dignity, Justice, Excellence and Integrity.
Providence has recently focused significant investment in shifting corporate shared services functions from a service delivery to a service performance mindset, with a focus on outcomes over activity. The Resource, Engineering, and Hospitality Group “REH” (formerly Supply Chain Management) has transitioned to align with this trend and aspires to be the industry’s leading supply chain and strategic sourcing organization. Our performance is measured by outcomes both financial and operational – that we achieve for Providence.
Critical to achieving this distinction, REH is looking to hire an Executive Director of Operational Excellence (EDOE) . The EDOE will lead our Operational Excellence vertical, which includes evaluating performance, strategic planning, services architecture design and implementation in collaboration with business owners primarily for clinical supply chain operations and, secondarily, for several other functions (e.g., food and nutrition, environmental services, clinical engineering/technology management, energy, capital equipment). The objective of each engagement is to elevate the performance of the function materially (e.g., substantial improvement in performance, cost, etc.) based on REH’s priorities.
In this position, the EDOE will be responsible for the following functions:
Lead end-to-end operational excellence program development, evaluation and strategic direction. This includes continuous evaluation of the effectiveness of Providence supply chain operations to determine if performance is currently meeting the needs of the organization and subsequently visioning a ‘future state’ with associated benefits and expected outcomes.
Focus on transforming Providence’s “end-to-end supply chain operations” (SCO) by diagnosing current state and defining future aspirations. This includes; evaluating the current state of SCO at Providence, defining future state objectives with rationale, syndication with REH and Providence leadership, blueprinting the path to the future state, determining capabilities needed and aps to execute, developing the timeline and business case, organizing and leading the performance transformation and reporting out to leadership on progress.
Beyond SCO, lead work cycles that follow similar structure across the other REH service delivery functions to achieve similar outcomes within each function. These activities will be prioritized with REH leadership to balance time and resource investment.
Stay informed on industry trends and innovation in REH service segments and ensure best practices, disruptive technologies and key industry developments and disseminated across REH.
Work closely with caregivers in the field and Providence and REH leadership to understand current state performance and opportunities for future state optimization.
Oversee a team of three Strategic Managers of Business Process Engineering and further analytical support positions.
Assist the REH Business Intelligence and Performance team in developing performance metrics and master data requirements that correspond with service design attributes around experience, delivery, quality and cost.
Above all, we are looking for a servant leader whose personal and professional background demonstrates a genuine passion for the mission and core values of Providence Health & Services. You have a style that emphasizes openness, collaboration, visibility, and connectivity. A strong, confident, results-oriented, and decisive leader with the capacity to balance the big picture and strategic perspective with a focus on operations and the details of execution.
