Providence Health & Services Director of Patient Safety and Clinical Risk – PSJH in Renton, Washington
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Director of Patient Safety and Clinical Risk – PSJH to our location in one of the following locations: Renton, WA, Portland, OR, Santa Rosa, CA, or Irvine, CA.
We are seeking a Director of Patient Safety and Clinical Risk – PSJH to Responsible for providing leadership and strategies to develop, implement, and support the system-wide patient safety and clinical risk plan. This position will oversee the governance of systems such as Datix and RL Solutions for the purpose of data governance and analysis to identify system opportunities to improve care and/or decrease clinical risk claims. Suggests opportunities and potential strategies/solutions for addressing identified systemic issues impacting patient care and/or risk. This position works collaboratively with the CCPH Patient Safety team to implement and strengthen high reliability, promoting patient safety, enhancing quality care, and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the System. This position requires an individual that is motivated and self-driven as well as working in cooperation and teamwork across the CCPH division and Risk & Integrity division to accomplish the organizational goals. This position requires the ability to work across CCPH and RIS to achieve PSJH organization’s goal of zero preventable harm and decrease liability costs.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Responsible for development, in collaboration with CCPH leadership, of a strategic patient safety and clinical risk plan.
Responsible for implementation of the strategic plans in collaboration with regional leaders and caregivers across PSJH
Develop and leads process for data governance and statistical data tracking to assist management personnel in the decision-making process for the reporting systems (Datix and RL Solutions).
Develops and leads a team of regional risk leaders to mitigate existing and potential risks. Partners with regions to analyze and implement an effective causes analysis process that aligns with the High Reliability processes and allows for systemic learning, Develops a critical event response plan for clinical and general liability (operational) incidents, Develops and implements system-level policies and procedures, which ensure effectiveness of the clinical and operational risk management program and liability exposures and In collaboration with the Director of High Reliability, co-leads regular meetings and/or conference calls with Regional patient safety leaders to improve patient safety and clinical risk across the organization.
Supports systems analysis to uncover and identify patterns that could result in patient safety issues and/or compensable events.
Partners with System Risk and Quality Critical Event team to develop and lead a response plan to critical clinical and operational risks.
Partners with Providence St. Joseph Health Legal, Risk/Claims and Risk Finance Department to provide data analysis and identify opportunities in collaboration with Clinical Institutes to address opportunities across the System .
Partners with the Director of High Reliability to teach and ensure the principles of Caring Reliably are implemented across PSJH.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Master’s Degree in Healthcare Related Field -or- JD with Healthcare experience
Excellent knowledge of high reliability principles, clinical operations and clinical risk management
Excellent analytical skills

Strong leadership skills
