Description:

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Director, Cloud Engineering to our location in Renton, WA.

We are seeking a Director, Cloud Engineering to be responsible for overseeing the implementation key components of the PSJH enterprise wide cloud service line and service strategy. A core expectation will be to develop cloud engineering standards and policies related to cloud governance. A core expectation will be to drive programs and teams in support of the Azure migration efforts.

The Director will be responsible for managing a multi-discipline team of engineers. This team will leverage the technology portfolio to develop high valued, reliable, and scalable business solutions. The Director maintain adherence to all standards of practice for the use of cloud services. These standards will ensure proactive planning and forecasting measures are operationalized to manage business demand and exceed business expectations.

The Director and team will work collaboratively across engineering service lines in support of enterprise Cloud technology deployments, automation and innovation initiatives, and participate in re-engineering solutions for existing Cloud technology issues across the enterprise.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a distributed environment and leading geographically distributed teams. The scope of activities includes all planning, design, and engineering activities associated with all Cloud technologies and Azure program. Additional responsibilities include developing and directing specific engineering programs/projects to support strategic initiatives.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

Executive Director Core Responsibilities

  • Report to a Executive Director

  • Delivery (2 years or longer) in focus.

  • Provide leadership to multiple operations that either constitute, or support, a significant percentage of the organization’s revenues.

  • Use complex business information of varying types (to include financial; marketing; legal; functional) to develop strategies.

  • Accomplish work through subordinate senior-level managers; and/or high level individual contributors.

  • Identify and implement changes and improvements that accomplish long-range business objectives.

  • Typically require post graduate study or equivalent blend of education and experience; 10 or more years of functional experience, along with 6 or more years of management experience.

Strategic

  • Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and integrating emerging technologies into the PSJH environment; responsible for developing engineering standards and policies related to emerging technologies.

  • Responsible for designing, engineering, developing, and delivering cloud service solutions that supports engineering, standard design, standard configuration and maintenance standards for PSJH.

  • Responsible for designing, engineering, developing, and delivering automated solutions that support engineering, standard design, standard configuration, and maintenance standards for PSJH.

  • Guides team to engineer technical solutions to meet customer requirements with a balanced view toward performance, availability, data security, and cost effectiveness.

  • Familiar with Security, Network, Telecom, Database technologies (e.g. Oracle & SQL), Storage and Backup technologies, Client Systems technologies, UNIX and Windows server, virtualization technologies and tools.

  • Collaborate with other IS teams to discover and realize innovation in Network, Telecom, Security Database, Client Systems, UNIX and Windows server and Server Virtualization techniques, technologies, and tools.

  • Perform all work with the focus on how best to support the Providence St. Joseph Health mission and ministries.

  • Maintain forward looking and strategic partnerships with key technology vendors.

Management

  • Responsible for the implementation and adherence of standards and policies across all disciplines for enterprise cloud and automation services.

  • Provide responsive leadership to delegate, coordinate, and motivate staff; evaluate performance for direct reports and for contractors/other peoples’ direct reports; works with individuals and HR to improve performance as needed.

  • Serve as a member of the Engineering management team, providing input for decisions affecting PSJH as a whole and their customers.

  • Build consensus and drive to agreement upon a course of action where there are multiple perspectives.

  • Responsible for managing the daily activities of support, process, and new project activities for an engineering team and coordinating the utilization of staff needed to assist with other projects.

  • Responsible for assisting with the development of the operating and/or capital budgets; responsible for the analysis, monitoring, and reconciliation of those budgets.

  • Responsible for hiring, training, and developing staff to ensure the team has both the technical and organizational skills to effectively maintain operations and support as measured by established service levels; conducts and oversees evaluations and establishes performance goals of the staff; resolves disciplinary problems, grievances, and other sensitive personnel matters.

  • Responsible for the ongoing development and revision of performance standards for all job categories within the team.

  • Develop staff training plans and identifies opportunities for on-the-job training; recommend formal training options.

  • Establish and maintain excellent standards in dealing with customers, vendors, and staff in the daily working of the team.

  • Escalate issues and/or problems on any customer impacting work to the Executive Director of Engineering.

  • Monitor and provide input to the Executive Director of Engineering regarding services used for outsourced services and contract compliance.

  • Facilitate procurement of outsourced consultants and contractors with requisite skills to augment the Engineering Team to meet PSJH business needs.

Operational

  • Responsible to support operational teams by serving as the highest escalation point for technology related issues; take ownership to conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions to remediate known issues.

  • Oversee operations for documentation and standards functions.

  • Serve as sponsor and/or owner, as appropriate, for technology projects and initiatives within areas of accountability.

  • Ensure systems are engineered for optimal availability, reliability, scalability, and performance. Create documents and refines operational processes.

  • Treat all others with respect and demonstrates excellence, justice and compassion in daily work.

  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of all information, including financial/operational, employee/human resource, healthcare/patient data and information.

  • Manage hardware, software and tool license purchases and usage, and vendor relationships.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director of Engineering.

Other

  • Advocate Engineering goals and commitments; understand the vision of PSJH and is able to deploy that vision through functional areas.

  • Know when to proactively communicate with leadership about issues and problems that exist in their own functional area; perform daily interaction with staff; hold regular team meetings.

  • Develop effective working relationships at all organizational levels.

  • Maintain technical fluency and works to increase knowledge and skills.

  • Participate, as needed, in critical incident on-call rotation; carry a pager, cell phone and ensure availability during specified hours of coverage.

  • May be required to travel up to 25% of work schedule.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences, Business Management, Information Services, or related field of study and/or equivalent education/experience.

  • Ten (10) or more years of functional experience in related field.

  • Six (6) or more years of management experience.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Sciences, Business Management, Information Services, or related field of study and/or equivalent education/experience.

  • ITIL Certification and/or equivalent education/experience.
