THE ROLE

The Chief Nursing Officer - Medical Group for the Physician Enterprise is a core member of the Physician enterprise leadership team and serves as a key bridge between operational management and clinical care, as such the role maintains dual reporting to both the CMO and the COO of the Physician Enterprise. Will have oversight for the clinical competency and scope of practice for non-provider personnel including MA, LNP, and RN caregivers across both primary care and specialty clinics. The position provides strategic input to the development of efficient clinical workflows within the environment that allow "top of license" functioning of support staff and optimal performance of the combined clinical team. The position has oversight of patient safety and infection prevention standards and policies within the Physician Enterprise clinics. The position will provide strategic input on policies and processes in risk management, grievances & complaints, and liability mitigation. The position is expected to promote engagement and cohesion across the clinical and operational team members in the Physician Enterprise clinics. The position will provide strategic input on the optimal integration and use of the APC workforce in Physician Enterprise practices.

Performance outcomes tied to this role will include clinic, productivity, caregiver engagement retention and turnover, quality performance, safety and infection prevention performance, liability costs, and patient experience.

Essential functions:

  • Actively support and incorporate the Mission and Core Values into daily activities, programs and services within the Physician Enterprise. Treat all others with respect and demonstrate through leadership excellence, justice, and compassion in daily work and relationships with others. Maintain the ability to articulate the mission of the Providence St. Joseph's Health System to employees, physicians, and other providers and groups.

  • Demonstrate service excellence and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with others, including patients/families/members, employees, managers, medical staff, volunteers and community members, so that productivity and positive relations are maximized.

  • Maintain and assure the confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information.

  • Work in partnership with the Physician Enterprise/Medical Group CNE/CNOs to implement transformative changes and standardized clinical practices into care delivery across the Physician Enterprise clinics.

  • Provide leadership and oversight to assure improvement in the Clinical Care and patient Safety performance in the Physician Enterprise. Optimize safety event reporting and trending of safety risk mitigation action plans for areas of highest patient safety and liability concerns.

  • Work with Operational leadership to maximize clinical workflows for effectiveness and efficiency, as well as to reduce safety risks.

  • Develop Policies and Protocols for standardized infection prevention practices in the Physician Enterprise clinics.

  • Assess and implement appropriate grievance and complaint management occurrences across all Physician Enterprise senior leadership team.

  • Create and manage a process to display risk management performance and activity to the Physician Enterprise senior leadership team.

  • Ensure appropriate scope of practice and clinical laddering of non-provider clinical support staff including, MA, LPN, RN roles in the Physician Enterprise clinics that maximizes "Top of License" care models in the clinic.

  • Take a leadership role in the implementation of "own it" and/or future caregiver engagement and customer service initiatives.

  • Provide strategic input for optimal integration of APC workforce in the Physician Enterprise clinics.

  • Partner with the Ambulatory Quality Council, Primary Care Executive Committee, and other standing forums to improve Quality and Safety in the Physician Enterprise Clinics.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An advanced nursing degree, either ARNP or DNP.

  • Have at least 10 years' clinical experience delivering patient care as a provider in an outpatient environment.

  • Have at least 10 years' administrative or management experience in an ambulatory setting with an emphasis on a quality or safety.

  • Success in working effectively in a highly-matrixed environment to align strategies and accountabilities across System, Region, and local clinic administrative structures.

  • Demonstrated management and communication style and skills that engender confidence, trust credibility, and a positive regard by others as someone who can be counted on.

  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements necessary to maintain standards of clinical practice and safety programs.

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the trends and changes taking place in health care and their implications for future clinical and safety approaches and standards.

  • Strong organizational skills, proficient in computer skills/software programs.

  • Skilled in learning and motivating staff with ability to mediate difficult circumstances.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure by prioritizing work activities and re-negotiating deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced department and handle multiple tasks, work with interruptions, and deal effectively with confidential information.

  • Effective documentation skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel across Medical Group locations, hospitals, and administrative offices.
