Providence Health & Services Accountant 2 - Religious Community in Renton, Washington
The Sisters of Providence- Mother Joseph Province are calling an Accountant 2 - Religious Community to our location in Renton, WA.
We are seeking an Accountant 2 - Religious Community to be responsible for performing accounting and financial functions in support of the Sisters of St. Dominic – Tacoma (SSDT) and the Sisters of Providence – Mother Joseph Province (SPMJP) Religious Communities. The SPMJP religious community provides accounting and related services to the SSDT religious community under a management contract. This position will be primarily responsible for providing those services. In addition, the position will work closely with members of the finance team for the SPMJP to provide support and coordinate finance-related activities between the two organizations. This position works under the general supervision of the Provincial Treasurer of the SPMJP. Primary duties of the position include: leading the cash receipts and cash disbursements functions; preparation of monthly journal entries; review and reconciliation of the general ledger; maintaining bank and investment accounts; financial statement preparation and analysis; developing and maintaining an effective system of internal controls; providing support for the development of the annual budget; providing back-up support for related SSMJP accounting functions; and special projects as assigned.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Review and summarize SSDT invoices; obtains necessary approvals; leads the processing of weekly cash disbursements via check or electronic funds transfer; and communicates with vendors to resolve payments and other issues.
Direct the processing of SSDT cash receipts and bank deposits and use of petty cash; prepares and posts related journal entries to general ledger.
Analyze SSDT general ledger accounts and prepares and posts monthly journal entries.
Review monthly SSDT financial results, prepares financial statements, provides variance analysis and reviews with the SPMJP Provincial Treasurer and SSDT leaders as appropriate.
Perform regular and ad hoc reconciliations of SSDT general ledger accounts.
With the SPMJP Provincial Treasurer, monitors general fund and other cash account balances, coordinates SSDT investment accounts, communicates with investment advisors, custodian banks and others as needed to implement the directives of the SSDT investment committees.
Assist with the preparation of the annual budget for the SSDT; provides updated budget forms; provides accounting and budgetary advice as needed; analyzes and summarizes the budget; and assists the SPMJP Provincial Treasurer with the SSDT budget presentation and approval.
Provide support for the filing of various SSDT reports to government agencies including Medicaid eligibility and certifications; Department of Revenue annual property tax exemption filing status updates and renewals; quarterly FICA 941 tax payments for select Sisters; and other government reports as needed.
Develop and effective system of internal controls to support the SSDT financial operations.
Work with SPMJP staff to develop back-up support for SSDT accounting and finance functions.
Provide back-up support SPMJP accounting and finance functions as assigned.
Monitor SSDT finance record retention policy to ensure records are retained as prescribed both on-site and off-site.
Assist in special accounting projects and reports as needed.
Required qualifications for this position include:
4 years of college or university training in accounting or related subjects.
Four years of professional level accounting experience
Competency in Excel
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Quickbooks accounting software experience
